About Danica
I’m a romantic seeking delight in every corner of life, especially where it’s typically thought of as frivolous or unnecessary. I want to put the “object” in “art object”, and make things that you can use on a daily basis that will stand the test of time and truly feel like a work of art. Things that feel as good in human hands as they do to human eyes; things that feel incredibly thoughtful and touched—because they are.
I have the mind of a Jungian psychologist, the heart of an artist, and the hands of an engineer. I was born and raised in Minnesota, but drawn to the west coast in 2015 for grad school. I now live in Oakland with my cat (read son), Nickel. I enjoy walks around Lake Merritt, trips to Muir Beach, the winding California hills drenched in the smell of eucalyptus, bay leaves, and sea breeze, and lots of butter on my bread.
About Linen
I use 100% linen for everything I make for a few simple reasons: it is a very sustainable fiber, it is beautiful, and it is easy to sew.
Linen uses 99.8% less water to grow than cotton.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg for linen’s sustainability merits. Read more about sustainability
Linen is the OG go-to textile used for centuries, 100 of them to be exact, and is one of the oldest fibers known to humankind. It has this timeless, rich feel that instantly renders the object it’s made of into a more luscious, substantial feeling thing. The magical weight and heft of linen just feels right on the skin, in your hand, and on your body.
Linen is like the oil paint of fabric.
One of the downsides people often associate with linen is that it is prone to wrinkles. While this can be annoying for objects and clothing for daily use, I prefer to think of it as simply an unavoidable byproduct of a quality fiber that has SO many more positives than negatives.
Wouldn’t it feel kind of weird if something with such history was 100% perfect and convenient for the modern human? The wrinkly-ness of linen means the fabric has memory. I think it's quite poetic and fitting given the lengthy history of linen.
Wrinkles are natural.
All of the linen used in my pieces is OEKO-TEX certified.
That means that it has been tested for substances that are harmful to human health. You can learn more about OEKO-TEX certification here.
Most of the linen I use comes from Lithuania and other eastern European countries.

Make a donation.
I accept donations from those with funds to spare who would like to directly support the growth of my small business in a tangible way! I’m currently saving for a desktop computer (to make graphic design easier) and a new serger (to make sewing faster). Your financial support is very much appreciated!
